After our Sippewissett adventure, we went to another part of Falmouth, MA. The Woods Hole Oceanographic Institute (WHOI, pronounced "hooey") is famous worldwide for its work in oceanography and technology. We spent the day there, learning about marine science and talking with its scientists.
We learned about submersibles -- scientific instruments that can examine places in the ocean too deep for humans to explore.
This technology isn't exclusively used for scientific research. Here's an image of a lost airplane, found by a submersible on the ocean floor!
